Investors in Pupils

'Investors' is about children taking control of their learning. They find out about the resources in school, including people who support them, and they develop an awareness of their own role. They work on their behaviour and learning through independent and class targets. A lot of the work takes place in assemblies and PHSCE. There are displays in every classroom and throughout the school to help us to keep focussed.

We believe that taking part in the programme helps our children achieve high standards in their education and equips them with important life skills.

Learning

With the help of their teachers, the children set new targets for their learning each half term. Their classroom display shows them the progress they are all making and how this contributes to the class reaching its goals.

The five areas of Investors in Pupils

Behaviour

The children learn to take responsibility for their behaviour in their lessons and around the school. They work together to make the school pleasant for all involved.

Classroom Management

A target relating to the routines and organisation of their classroom is decided each half term through discussions between the children and their teachers. The children are encouraged to play their part in making the classroom a pleasant and safe place in which to work.

Attendance

The children are aware that good attendance means good achievement. Each class has a percentage attendance target to reach each half term. The aim is 100%!

Induction

At Green Lane we pride ourselves on being a welcoming place to visit, and on providing a secure environment for all. The children set targets for looking after new people in school, whether they be staff or children.

The Curriculum

The Curriculum - Providing Choice, Delivering Success

The Curriculum at Green Lane Primary is a broad and balanced programme of educational experiences, designed to equip our pupils with the skills and attitudes necessary to carry them into adult life, to become successful, happy and fulfilled citizens.  The curriculum covers all National Curriculum requirements, including the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and the foundation subjects of Information Communication Technology, Design Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art and Design, Physical Education and Religious Education.

Spiritual, Moral and Social Guidance

Religious Education is an integral part of the curriculum.  The lessons are based on Bradford’s Agreed Syllabus.  We aim to make our pupils aware of the variety of faiths represented in Bradford. Pupils develop a respect for, and an understanding of, their own beliefs and the beliefs of others.  We have a daily assembly, a focal point for meeting together as a school, key stage, year group or class.  On one day a week we have a faith assembly.  We recognise the need to value the spiritual dimension in pupils who have no particular religious faith, we therefore provide Rainbow Assembly on Faith Worship days.

Every parent has the right to withdraw his or her child from collective worship.  Please speak to Mr. Holland if you have any concerns.

New Opportunities, New Resources

At Green Lane we are committed to developing the learning skills that pupils will need for life.  Computers are a superb resource for students and teachers.  We have recently invested in a large number of new and more powerful computers.  This has made our ICT Suite something to be proud of.  The pupils have access to the computers during lessons in clubs before and after school.

We are also investing in new texts books, particularly to support Literacy, Numeracy and Science.

Positive Behaviour Management

Our emphasis is on praising ‘good’ behaviour choices.  Our aim is to create an atmosphere where effective learning can take place, all pupils have the right to learn and teachers have the right to teach.

Our school rules are simple and easy to follow:

1.      Be co-operative and do as you are asked the first time

2.      Be safe, take care of each other and our school

3.      Always do your best, ask for help if you need it

4.      Respect each other, no teasing or disturbing others

5.      Be honest and tell the truth first time

The child’s behaviour will be tracked during each lesson; you will be kept informed of good and poor behaviour.  We will encourage the children to make responsible behaviour choices.
